Reflective Essay: GEYLUV

HOMOSEXUALITY ON MAGNIFICATION

Homosexuality has been one of the controversial issues raised by many people in different mediums of inter-social connection like the social networking sites, public newspapers and etc. We cannot deny that LGBT community, the proponents of homosexuality, are in the midst of bullying, discrimination and degradation among other people. It only justifies that nowadays, homosexuals or same-sex lovers cannot attain the apex of complete acceptance, an open arms and tight embrace from the majority of people.

Geyluv, a story of homosexual attraction (love on their perspective) of Mike and Benjie written by Honorio Bartolome de Dios is an excellent example featuring the common dispositions of gays in our community and the adjustment mechanisms of gays towards bisexuals or vice versa. How come that men/women that are designed by God for women/men were environmentally or genetically altered to be attracted to the same gender? Benjie's disposition in the story is somewhat different compared to modern gays who are extremely extrovert in nature. Benjie has self-respect and dignity and he has the fear to be cheated and used by other men who didn't sincerely loved him.

Then, here comes Mike that eventually becomes the source of love and deep happiness of Benjie in his life. The story was hanging but the 'before-the-end' story showed the development of their homosexual relationships. In my own perspective, this relationship has a process, started with the sense of brotherhood, overcoming or meeting the problems and conflicts arise between them and helping each other. It is also a contributory factor that they always have each other roughly twenty-four hours. Next on the process is the sexual attraction until it continuously developed.

However, this homosexual bonding can be really fixed at all. There would be barriers, just like prejudice, discrimination, degradation and fool notions about them that could totally devastates their relationship. According to surveys and statistics conducted in U.S., most people do not accept gays or lesbians because of their behavior. Another important barrier is their family, the total disregard and incomplete acceptance of parents to their sons and daughters who are gays or lesbians. All these magnified conflicts that will be facing by a homosexual can cause psychological harm.

Gays and lesbians are humans, they also want to live happy but then, there are people who will do everything just to make their lives miserable and sorrowful. Let us avoid this kind of mindset,  "LGBT ay salot sa lipunan". They deserve to e respect and treat kindly. some gays and lesbians had dominated the entertainment and music industry. It is not shocking that they will be the answers in uplifting our depressed economy. Time will come that they will help you in despair.

Reflective Essay: 'Urbana and Feliza:Two Letters'

RIGHTEOUSNESS

Aiming to educate the public regarding good manners and proper conduct, especially in public dealings, was given great emphasis by the 'Urbana and Feliza: Two Letters' written by Father Modesto de Castro. This was written many years ago but the message still holds nowadays.

The letters were traditionally regarded as a repository of lessons meant not only for nineteenth-century readers, but also for twenty-first-century readers. This literary piece had such a great appeal and impact to a reader who is hoping to a reader who is hoping for the real change in our society through showing the sincere effort in serving our country and the endless discipline that must everyone possesses.

First letter of Urbana to Feliza is greatly interesting and satisfying. It is deeply substantiated and highly-spirited with the essence of good governance. It tackles the significance of good leadership and building camaraderie towards other people. Being good and honest leader bounces with proper treatment and devoid of discrimination and degradation of your constituents. Facing the real situation in our society particularly in politics seems to disregard the good manners and virtues of a non-traditional politician. "Ang korona ang dapat na humanap ng puputungan at hindi ang ulo ang maghanap ng mismong ipuputong", as what one of the lines stated on Urbana and Feliza. Many politicians or soon to be politicians are just like crocodiles who are craving for meat or pork barrel or what else that money is a great deal. Some of them are not thinking for a better future in the Philippines instead, their eyes are endlessly staring on the sparks of gold and critically planning for their own prosperity. How disgust and greedy it is!

On the other hand, the second letter of Urbana to Feliza is somewhat all people who loved to go on a special or formal occasions can strongly relates to it. I learned numerous things say for instance, the table manners, eating properly and neatly and with 'class', greeting or praising the people who helped and organized the occasions. These are some of the manners that we can o in our very simple way.

Urbana which symbolizes 'urbanity' or good manners, Feliza who came from the Spanish word feliz which means happiness through fulfilling good deeds, and Honesto which represents sincerity of heart and neatness of honor can be the paragons of good values and manners that we must incorporate in ourselves. However, after I read the significant piece of Modesto de Castro, a question directly strikes in my had...Do all Filipinos are aware of such literary piece? If your mind says NO, stand up and let your mind and eyes walk, explore, and know about it, future youths of righteousness...

EXPOSITORY ESSAY (SCIENCE)

GENETIC ENGINEERING VS. LIFE

Life is sacred. Life is a precious gift given to us by our Almighty God that is priceless and irreversible. Once it is gone, it's truly gone. Life is natural, only God can alter and create it with complexity. How if these are discarded just to fulfill the desirable needs of our modern world astonishing with the wonders of modern technology?

In heaven, God will accuse those scientists greatly promoting genetic engineering, with plagiarism. Why? Due to their intellectual superiority demanding pursuit or in short, extreme intelligence, an idea came into existence if is there possibility that life could change, alter and create. Who am I pertaining to? If you know them, Yes!, they are the human geneticists, the proponents of human genetic engineering.

Genetic Engineering, an advanced genetic technology, is the direct manipulation of genes in which DNA is the main variable of modification/alteration. Geneticists applied all this knowledge to all living organisms, micro- or macro- organisms like bacteria, fungi, viruses, plants, animals and severely to humans. According to a Genetic Engineering Promoter, it is  advantageous when it comes to curing diseases and turning undesirable into desirable characteristics. In my own perspective, still it is inimical, bad effects are heavier than good effects, that is why many controversial issues arose. I will go deeper into the adverse effects since thi is the purpose of my writing.

Moral Issues. Genetic engineering  changes  instead restores the natural capacity, capability and physical and mental characteristics of a human being. It is something that goes beyond the idea of moral and divine laws. Again, life is sacred, only God has the capacity to create its individuals. Who among you can't digust with the physical feature of a baby with a recombinant DNA of a dog? It is a different living thing, unrecognizable, unique yet alien. Is there any justice of creating a new form of life  and then suddenly dies because it has short life span?. Think of COPYCAT! A cat that was genetically engineered but at the end found comfort in death. One thing that must know by the public, normal organisms are affected once DNA were removed from them just to alter its characteristics into desirable. It is time for an awakening. Genetic engineering must go with limitations...

Chance of Diseases and Loss of Nutrition. It is agreeable that genetic engineering causes so much damage in the plants and animals thereby creating new forms of microorganisms like protozoans, bacteria, viruses that afflicts the body of the organism. This is not just the problem and fear that must be addressed, it is also important to know that some of these diseases are communicable or some are not. Say for instance, there is a virus that eats tissues that are responsible for normal weight, or we can point out genetic mutations like Down's syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome. Some diseases severely devastates the body that is the primary cause of loss of nutrition. Human Genetic engineering must come to its end...

Eagerness to Inject in the Whole Society. Many people aspires for this kind of genetic technology, mostly scientists that are once blind because of its 'miracle' benefits.I will give you an example. Adolf Hitler was not a scientist, but even before our modern world, the idea of of creating forms of life already exists. He wanted to create a battalion of strong soldiers that would fought for the World War. See? Genetic engineering is so terrible...

Human genetic engineering must go with limitations. Human genetic engineering must come to its end. Human genetic engineering must be abolish. It is terrible and a threat to our life. Do you see a future life with this kind of science? A future life with the shadow of a slayer! Protect your life. You decide.

MY MOTIVATIONS

This song really inspires me when I'm losing hope, in times of hard work and difficulty, in times of trouble and when I'm in the midst of crossroads. It makes me feel well and relaxed every time I hear this song but unfortunately, I don't know the title...It talks about our lord, as our Savior and the answers to our prayers and the strength in times of despair. Here goes the lyrics...

I will come to you in the silence
I will lift you from all your fear
You will hear my voice
I claim you as my choice
Be still, and know I am near.
I am the word that leads all to freedom
I am the peace the world cannot give
I will call your name, embracing all your pain
Stand up, now, walk and live.
Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine
I am strength for all the despairing
Healing for the ones who dwell in shame
All the blind will see, the lame will all run free
And I will all know my name.
I am hope for all who are hopeless
I am eyes for all who long to see
In the shadows of the night
I will be your light
Come and rest in me...

This poem is my motivation. It is very meaningful and full of lessons that are applicable to real life situations. It leads and transforms me to be a better person. It's title is 'Dare To Be'.

DARE TO BE

When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.
When there is darkness, dare to be the fire to shine the light.
When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.
When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.

When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.
When there seems to be no hope, dare to find someone.
When you're feeling tired, dare to keep going.
When times are tough, dare to e tougher.

When love hurts you, dare to love again.
When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.
When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.
When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.

When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.
When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.
When the day has ended, dare to feel as you've done your best.
Dare to be the best you can. At all times, DARE TO BE!

A short and simple yet meaningful writing for BSE-1B

Farewell

Champion of the champions...
The best of the best...
A Blessed Goodbye BSE-1B, 1st Sem., S/Y 2015-2016...

Aiming for the apex of victory is incomplete if only yourself have treasured such kind of moments. In our section, BSE-1B, we disregards selfishness and greatly promotes unity and camaraderie for aiming a complete success for complete happiness of every individual. That's BSE-1B, silent at the first instant but at the end, roars like a lion bringing the spirit of complete success.

It was a very bright and sunny morning of June 22, 2015 that marked the end and the beginning. It was the end of my very long summer vacation and the beginning of challenging college life at Central Bicol State University of Agriculture. In the whole week of the month of June, I and my classmates started the what we call 'getting to know each other' stage. Then, time came that we formed circle of friends, compose of I(Eric), Ate Maye, Joshua, Blessie, Ceejay, Janine, Nestor, Jenri and Carmela. We didn't know how we became so much closer to one another, but what I surely knew was, we shared the same characteristics or behavior, being noisy and naughty.

Halfway of the first semester, our friendships went so much deeper, we love each other as friends. Everyone of us is witness of one's own strengths and weaknesses, had helped each other's conflicts on study and financial problems. All those things strengthened our bonding as friends, and created a boundless comfort with them. They made my first journey in college  lively, full of happy memories that deserves reminiscence.

My college life turns livelier when we worked for our cheerdance presentation. We made a numerous trials in rehearsals for perfection. We surpassed disharmony within the group due to disagreement with time and lack of consideration. Even the measurement of loyalty to our group had been a sensitive issue arose. Despite of these obstacles and mazes, still, we stood out and had been declared as the champion of cheerdance competition during the CBSUA Charter Anniversary. How great to receive such kind of award, out of 54 competing sections, we did such a great job! This achievement tightened our brotherhood and sisterhood.

Aside from such recognition, another milestone had uncovered and stepped by BSE-1B as we performed our Speech Choir and bagged award as Second Place as part of the Culminating Activity in English with a theme, "Celebrating Language through Rhetoric." In addition, I got 1st place in Essay Writing Contest while Nestor Villanueva also got 1st place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Thanks God for such a wonderful blessing that you'd given to our section. However, our championship in cheerdance and second best in speech choir were not only just the source of our happiness but also the source of our sadness because 1st Sem.  came to its end, which means, we're not able to have each other at least eight hours and some of our classmates will transfer to other university/college.

Even if we can't constantly have each other for a long time, or we haven't time machine to bring ourselves into the yesterday's situations, what we have are pictures of the past, cherishing the moments that we had each other and retrospect everything about our section, BSE-1B which stands for BSE-no.1Best.

Farewell to all of you, guys!(magkikita pa rin naman tayo!)

'ME' EQUATION: Future= Self + Success

Designing and planning for your success in the future is like solving a puzzle. It Requires time, effort, skill, patience and commitment. There would be trials, but whatever step you make, strive to learn from it, for it will secure you a success.

It is the bright light which enters the edge of the closed window beside my bed that awaken me from my deepest sleep. Still, my mind remembers all the sequential and im
portant events dealing with my future life that are compacted in my very long, long dream last night.

I went into a study table and I immediately put a paper and a pen. I wrote everything from what happened in my dream. It goes this way...

These are the qualities of an ideal 'me' in the future: a man near to perfection, the best professor that a student can have, a person who attained his main goal in life, a good traveler of the world, a man with a big heart to other people through having charitable works, and a good son to his parents. If these could be me in the future, I have nothing else to wish for. Everything was complete despite the fact that I am perfectly imperfect at all. I still have my weaknesses.

My life was very nice since I started migrating from Bicol to Quezon City, after being graduated with academic distinction in college. Long years after I embattled the years of hard work for studying and for the pursuance of career, now I stood here at one of the famous and biggest schools in the Philippines, U.P. Diliman. It's a great pleasure that I'd acquire respect from my students. I think what matter is this saying, 'Treating others with dignity and making sure your behaviors are respectful would end up with respecting you in the same way. Thus, it will make you a person of quality'. This is my principle inside the classroom. According to my dream, the major subjects that I'm teaching were Science and Mathematics. I loved to work in Science laboratories and to teach the right way of mixing two chemical compounds as well as performing calculations satisfying the laws of Calculus. In such ways, it boosted my confidence to treat myself as a good professor or educator. I received awards from my invention and had been a great part in the Science and Math World. How nice it is!

I am a person who attained his main goal n life. According to Tony Robbins, setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. It's very difficult to attain a main goal in life especially if no one guided you to attain such a thing. I am still lucky for I have my family, for their lifetime support and encouragement to attain my main goals in life of being a successful man, It takes time, patience, hard work to attain such goal. During my elementary, high school, and college years I'll never forget the several times that there were many people who sacrificed everything just to suffice my needs in school. That was my parents, my ever beloved mother and father. In my dream, I owned a small yet pretty house and a gray car. I can afford my needs and wants especially my stuff, gadgets, clothing as well as accessories, and etc. I also supported the needs of my family and contributed to the expenses needed to build our own family dream house. It was very wonderful.

Next thing that was in my dream was about traveling the world. I dream to go to other places in the Philippines and also in other countries. Just in a deep sleep, i was able to go to other places across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and had arrived to U.S., Canada, Europe, Russia, France, Japan, China, Singapore and so on. It was a great experience to see the gigantic Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Also, the New York Film Festival with an enormous and astonishing floats moving down the street. I also experienced being under the cherry blossoms from Japan while its flower is falling towards the ground. With amusement, I also saw the Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan, Philippines. In my future, I was a traveler...

A man with a big heart to children through having charitable works. I find happiness when helping other people, specifically to those families and children who are disadvantaged. It satisfied me and gave me contentment. We must share everything that we have, we should avoid selfishness in our hearts in order to give yourself peace and happiness and to receive a surprise gift from heaven or from God. It is not difficult to do for me because I have the luxury and money. According to my dream, I founded three charitable foundations just like, "Tulong sa Mahirap ngunit mahusay na Mag-aaral" was for all children who can't afford themselves to send in school, "Cure For a Better Future" was a charitable work open for all mentally-ill children, and "New Horizons Family Care" was for the family who needs financial support.

Then in my dream, it illustrates that I am a good son to my parents. Well, as far as I know, I always thank them for everything that they've done for me. Also, there are times that I can say 'I Love You' to them...I respect them and I continuously and never stop showing my love through hugging them tightly. In that moment, I feel like floating on the sky and sitting on a very fluffy clouds. It gives me satisfaction. It makes my life completely happy.

After I wrote everything in my dreams, I started reading it. I know that this just a result of my deep imagination, it wasn't true at all. But then optimism suddenly dwells my mind forcing that anything could be possible with the aid of self-commitment, self-patience, self-skills. Some things that are stated  in my writing were not patterned or not the true 'me' right now, but changes are possible if I plan for an ideal 'me'. I kept the paper.

I approached my mother and gave to her the paper and positively say, "Everything that was stated there would be me on 2025". "Really?", my mother replied with a smile.

I expected that my mother would laugh at me. But it was different. What she only said is, "Continue the great work that you have now, because in the future you will become a successful and a great masterpiece ever created by God for a mission." It motivated me at present...

After all, designing my future self today continues...using all the skills, encouragement and motivation for attaining a common goal ---being successful in the future.

 THE COIN
In my vacant hours in school, I often spend my time eating delicious foods in the food court of my beloved CBSUA, hahahah!

One time, I saw a one-peso coin that has been passed and walked for several times by many people without noticing it. I get the coin. Instead of knowing who owns it since it's just a one-peso coin, I just take a sit. During that minimal span of time, a thing or an idea flashes back into my mind about the value of money and the value of the dignity and character of people.

It goes this way...There is a comparison between how the value money or a person affects by this factor...

A one-peso coin that was being scratched, hammered, or tightly pressured by a huge thing still remains its value. In our modern world, does this concept also apply to us, people?

I remember different TV personalities or other unknown people who were discriminated and bash in the world of social networking like actresses whose fame continuously faded in the eyes of audience. And also the girl behind the word AMALAYER, who had been bashed for several times until she lost her dignity and character as a person...Nobody is perfect. Just like coins, no one molded and created to be perfect, there could be flaws and imperfection. The value of coin must be the same as how we value a person even they have a bitter and dark past that changed their way of connecting to our society. A person that was being scratched, destroyed or kicked by bashers deserves to retain his dignity, character as well as his value as a person. He should not be degraded, discriminated and bullied. Every person is equal in the eyes of our Almighty God.

I remember my grade school years that I was bullied for several times because I couldn't met the standards that they want for me as belonging to a star section. They always shouted me and saying, "Bobo!" or "Tanga!" or a LOSER. I felt degraded and alone. I tried everything in order to changed such impression to me, studying hard, hard, hard but nothing was happened. I felt frustrated. It happened that I transfered in other schools--here Bicol not because to escape such thing but because of our socio-economic status. It's much better that I'd escaped from that gloomy and sorrow experience.

And today, I am living my life to the fullest, filling it with the happy memories that I gained in my 16 years of existence!

Through such coin, I'm able to retrospect my past experiences..."Hanep yan!". Past is past. What I can do is to focus on my present and design for my better future...Alright!!!

FRIEND
By: Eric Alina

Standing in the ground while looking up the sky, an enormous, terrible and deafening groan completely catches my attention. Suddenly, little drops of water starts to fall into the ground and make noise on the roof of neighboring houses. Every time the rain comes, I always remember the time when my friend always leaves me alone because of some shallow reason. But, he did not truly say something about it.

Why rain? You always visits me every time the sun leaves and gets me wet and soaks the lower part of my body into a sticky mud. Drops of water coming from a gloomy sky are running on my skin like a marathon, very quick. Despite the fact that it's getting cold and you causes the feeling of sadness and loneliness, your rainwater as it touches my skin seems that I am regaining energy or refreshment. I don't know why. It makes me feel alive like the kids I've seen playing in the rain.

After a couple of minutes, the rain vanished and a glimmering sunlight starts to reappear. It's great to see the glittering sands, rocks, stones and leaves due to raindrops that are being hit by the sunlight. Until, scorching rays of the sun starts to penetrate my skin. During that time, I see my friend again who always leave me when the rain comes. I looked up in the sky and strongly asked, "Why?". I repeat it  much louder, "Why?!!!".

Out of my expectations that he will not reply, My friend, named Sun replied, "It's because I want you to live happy and healthy into your life".
"What?, How odd you are!".
"It's true!, my dear, plant. I know you can't understand everything because you're just small. I am your friend Sun, who made promise to your parent plants to always take good care of you. I am the one who gives you light in order to manufacture your own food. But then the reality is, I'm not the only friend that you needed most, you need also rainwater and air in order for you to live that's why I'm leaving sometimes..."

"Is that true?, You care for me and made promise to my parents?. By the way, where are my parents? Where are they?"

"I'm sorry to say but they'd been destroyed by the typhoon two years ago...But it's okay, the important is YOU ARE ALIVE!"

"How sad it is!, Do I will experience the same thing as my parents?'

"No, if you will make yourself strong and healthy!'

"But how?"

"Through us! your true friends--Sun, Rainwater and Air...We are the agents for your good transformation. We are your strengths, you can be strong and healthy."

Finally, I realized that our true friends are blessings in disguise, they are good or they do something good which aren't recognized at the first instant. Our friends can be the source of our strengths. Everything has a reason and a purpose. Appreciate it as a good thing for yourself.

Thanks to my friends! I am lucky to have you! If I will count all the blessings that I have in CBSUA, I count on you!!!

I created this story during my free time, actually it's raining that time. I saw a very cute and small plant. Due to that plant, it inspires me to create a story that will relate to the concept of friendship...
